Thanks GotGC! Looks like it depends on the officer at the POE. Can I goto the local CBP office saying it was an error by the officer and get it updated? Anyways, I've an appointment with the USCIS official tomorrow and will update this thread on how it went.
I was in a similar, but slightly different, situation. I got my 3 year extension while my previous extension was still valid (a couple of days left).
So at the POE, the officer gave me on the I-94 a date that was 3 years from the date of entry (that's the max their system was designed to handle) and said that since I have the visa on the passport, the next time I reenter I would get the later date on the I-94.

People travelling to India, especially from the West coast should fly via the Pacific. Asian airlines such as Thai, Cathay and Asiana all offer better fares, better service and faster transit times.Plus these countries are not trying to fleece people by requiring that they get a "Direct Airside Transit Visa". It happened with my family when they reached the airport to board their flight on Virgin , they were not allowed.I then bought tickets on Thai for the next day. To compound the pain, Virgin imposed a "No Show" fee on each ticket despite going to the airport. I think it would be best to avoid most European carriers, if for no other reason but they offer higher fares, terrible service, long transit times and last but not the least; the scam of the century(Airport Transit Visas). What do they think the passengers will try to do, jump off the walkway and make a run for it so they can settle illegally in U.K!I think the U.K govt is running out of ways to make money so they have found the most ridiculous way to make a few extra pounds from people foolish enough to travel on one of their carriers! DONT FLY VIA U.K. PERIOD!

If you are on H1 and switch to another H1- you do not need to worry about Cap
If you are on H1 and switch to EAD- you have relinquished your H1.Whenever you wish to resume your H1- at that time you will go against the Cap.
Hope this clarifies
What about if one comes back on AP and hence has to use EAD but also has a valid H1 approval ( but no stamping in the passport ) . Can they go back and use that H1 approval for stamping and come back on H1 ? They are still working for the same company which sponsered the H1 and the GC

Which date should we fill in here. Should it be First EAD Received Date or Notice Date or approved Date?
2. While Efiling we have a field (With dropdowns) Current Immigration status(Visitor, Student etc..) which drop down value should we fill if we are on 485 Pending (AOS) as my H1B expired already?
3. If you pick C9 for Eligibility Status Question, we have a Text box for the question, please provide information concerning your eligibility status.. what should we fill in this box?
4. At the end of Efiling, does it provide us with any supporting documents that needs to be mailed? or Do you know which one to send? As per the Paper based document instrcutions we should send, 485 copy + EAD Copy. No photos as per the Efiling instructions and should send the EFiled receipt notice..
I would appreciate if anyone can help me with this info.

Not sure about the purpose of this thread but mine was applied on 29th April. Started seeing updates after 15th May. Got the approval update around 25th and cards on 7th (except that sp far all cards for me and my family used to arrive at same day this time they arrived on diffrerent days).

I was hoping that AILA would ask questions on capturing unused visa numbers and EB visa usage per year from USCIS!
I dont think USCIS can make a decision on capturing unused visa numbers. It is a directive that has to come down someone higher up, the president maybe. So AILA cannot ask them that question.
About annual wastage of visa numbers, since Ron Gotcher bought this news out, it must have already been discussed in an earlier [but recent] meeting or perhaps Ron has his own channel.

Mine took 8 days after the online status changed to approved-so don't worry. It's funny, on their website, they said documents mailed on sept 10, but i rcvd them on sept 17th. When i rcvd the AP, i realized the documents were mailed on sept 13-sept -- so don't blindly trust what is online.
There was a black line---uscis printer completely screwed up-and the first line of the address on mailing envelope and the address was completely un-readable. I am not sure how we even got it in mail.
I second to CC123. I had G-28 on everything. I got the EAD and AP directly. However, I did not get any original receipt notices from USCIS. My lawyer got the all original receipt notices.

My mother was here last year for almost 9 months (I got her visa extended). I thought one can only claim a person on visitor visa as dependent if he/she is a US or Canadian permanent resident. Is this not true? If not, how can I claim exemtions for her if she is back in India.

The 2001 recession was centered around the tech bubble... Except for people working in IT, most did not even feel it was recession... Infact the recession of 2001 was considered the shortest and the mildest on record... But it hit the tech industry hard which was at the center of the storm... Having learned their lesson, the IT companies paid a lot of attention to their bottomline and preserving their resources... The Ciscos, the Microsofts, the Oracles are sitting on huge piles of cash... So they have not been as quick to lay off people as other industries... So if you work in IT you might be thinking what recession? Things are fine... Just as people in Real estate and finance thought in 2001... However, if you look at the numbers it tells a different story... The peak unemployement during the 01 recession was 6.2%... This time we have already crossed 6.7% and there seems no light at the end of the tunnel... This is a much serious downturn, that will fundamentally affect US and rest of the world. I am surprised at the number of IT people thinking this is a small storm that will just pass away... Lehman Brothers, 140 year old bank just vanished one morning... Merrill Lynch gone! Thats some serious S**T!! Its like waking up one morning to find out that Microsoft does not exist anymore! Ask your friends working in finance (if you have any) and they will tell you how serious this is! The layoffs in IT are coming my friends... Hold on to your jobs like your life depended on it... Because things are about to get nasty for the IT sector too... Good luck!

I have similar situation - I applied for 140 in July 2006. My daughter will turn 21 in July 2007. As I have applied for 140 before she turns 21, she is safe for GC, but will loose H4 status when she turns 21. As per my lawyer's advice I have applied for her F1 so that she can stay and continue her studies in US. When I become eligible to apply for 485, she can be included in the application - but, not as a dependent of H1B holder.I urge you to ask for second opinion. From my understanding it depends how long your I-140 was pending.

I took an infopass appointment on 12/13 and met with an IO. All the IO did was to e-mail the service center for FP. I now see two soft LUDs on 12/15 and 12/18 on my I-485. I don't know if these are related to the generation of FP notice or something else.
infopass is not useful for fp. I too tried that way, but didnt help.
if you use the poj, and you are lucky to get hold of IO at the office where your 485 is pending, then they have the authority to create new fp notice and they can also check whether your name check is cleared or not. they will also give you the dates as to when the name check was initiated (this is usually 1 week after your notice date).

Cool down dude, I can understand OPs frustrations, I am in same boat and see similar cases around, not that ead or ap is anything great, just that someone who applied before feels rejected seeing TSC giving out eads like cookies:)

Even receipt is also not some thing great but for you question should be what is more critical at this time getting receipt or getting ead.
I guess every one can wait for EAD but every one need receipt first.
