I appologize profusely for the misunderstanding... entirely mea cupla. :(

Anyway, you won't have to worry about having to see any bit of me anymore... perhaps there's somewhere where someone who shoots non-Canon equipment that doesn't have a CMOS or CCD inside it is welcome. Goodbye.

No need to apologize or leave and this site is not just for Canon or Nikon users but a site that is communal and not dictated by opinions.

I hope you don't leave.........I'd miss your valuable contributions. To add what Matt said about water under the bridge........the water flows but the bridge still stands.

See this link : It says Employment Authorization Card as one of the proof's for legal residents.

    http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#BDLP
Thanks! I have visited this web site before. Now my doubt is, if I show my EAD as a proof for the status, I am worried about they will give DL only for 3 months i-e till the validity of EAD. Then I have to go again to DMV after 3 months to renew again for another 9 monts validity of new EAD. This is pain in bu--, as it continue till I get GC. Due to the retrogression, I do not know when I will get GC.

You will get a letter in mail and then you should get all the documents listed there.............Also some of the items listed will make no sense to you as yours in Employment based GC and the letter is a standard letter which USCIS uses for family based gc also.....

It will also have one point that bring documents if you were arrested, convicted etc........dont get scared if you never got in trouble....

Prepare for the interview....read your job description which was used for LC and you should know if word by word as that was 1 question officer had asked me and I could answer it very well but was surprised that I was asked a question related to what technology I work and what are my job duties......

Good Luck. Everything will be fine and it will take 30-40 min max. :)

    Background:

My wife did her MS from US university and is currently on OPT working with a small US Oil services company in Texas. Her OPT ends next May.

    Question:

Can a non E-Verify company file for H1 visa?

Can a person extend their Drivers License in Texas during cap-gap? My wife's OPT ends next May and if her employer files H1 visa, can she work from May till October and extend her drivers license also?

I just started this thread to learn how other members are considering option to transfer EB3 case to EB2.

    - Please let us know,
    - Is it worth trying?
    - Is there any issue if you have tried? Success or failure.
    - If you got success, let everyone know.

    Thanks,
    Samir.

I wonder if this is one of the rogue users from another forum. this is tiring to post everyday, but here are IVs acheivements:

Of course no one is forcing you to donate, you can just go around complaining, accusing and attacking everyone for the next 10 years instead.

Dude, I have also donated to IV but i am not sure why that "donor" doesn't come next to my name. I wish everyone donates atleast $25 to support IV and for you "tonyHK12" stopping being a Jerk and accusing people as being attackers (when you don't know about anyone), if you need to encourage people to donate start a new thread and direct people to the new thread.

    Team,

I am in eb3 with priority date jan/2007 and working with EAD and 485 pending.

my sponsered employer willing to promote me with my position and i was having thought of filing a new case in eb2 and port my eb3 priority date. my company has different sister company working in different areas, can I file my eb2 application from other sister company not from the company where my eb3 is filed?

Also I have 3 years degree and 1 year pgdca plus 10 plus years of experience. I wanted to know if you know anybody who filed eb2 with 3 years degree and 1 year pgdca? according to my research i may have trouble at 140 stage?

if my eb2 gets denied, what happens to my eb3 case?

    Please advice.

    Thanks,
    Matt.

Its tough at I-140. But you wont have any issues with EB3

Optimist, thanks for the clarification. Do you get a 3 year extention if?

    a) I140 is aproved
    b) I140 filed but pending

    Thx

To get a 3 year extension:
    * I-140 needs to be approved, AND
    * your PD in the current months VB needs to be retrogressed.

If I-140 is still pending, either it needs to be pending >365 days, or your LC itself should have been filed >365 days ago.

Swede, Thank you. We need more people like you.
And to think of it so many people who could come to the rally, who are struck in the logjam and should come to the rally, did not come. It is a shame!!

It goes to show that IV represents everyone and not just Indians or Chinese. I am proud of all the Brits and other Europeans who not only joined the fight but led it from the front.

I was the guy from Sweden. I agree with the Russian student.
The reason I was there was because my green card process was a painful and stressful experience for 5 years. And I was still one of the lucky ones! I don't want to put anyone through the same agony, not even my worst enemy. I really feel for the people still stuck in the mess.

I talked to a Polish guy who had been here 9 years fully legally and could not leave. He had not seen his family in 9 years and did not want to risk going back just in case they would not approve his H1B in his home country. They are very strict there it seems, because none of his family members or friends could not even get a tourist nor visit visa to see his graduation. Shocking!

I was glad I showed up at the rally just to hear all the peoples' stories.
Most people who did not show up probably think they are ok after applying the i485. They will join IV rallies, when they realize how wrong they are. People have applied for i485s years ago and still don't have a green card...
You are in trouble until you get your green card in your hand.

Hmmmm! if i understand correctly 7%- 8% interest is given on FIXED deposit (of Rs 50 lakhs or more ) for 5 or more years i.e person gets money after 5 years. How will the person meet expenses for first 5 years ?

This also means he can never buy a house ? I guess how many families would never want to own a house ?

P.S sorry for the rant - but some of the threads are really disappointing... EB2 vs EB3, Masters vs Non-masters....

You don't have to be sorry. If there is an option to review a thread created newly by administrator before it goes to public, management should consider. Nothing will be lost if a thread takes 24 hours to go live.

Guys, chill out! Hammer's concerns are genuine...but a bit misplaced.

H1B visas democratized the American dream. Initially, American Dream was available only to people who came to US to do Masters and people who were hired in India directly by American companies for jobs in US. The second option was extremely rare.

People who didnt fall under the above two category could have invariably come through a Body shopper who democratized and socialized the American dream. They made millions not only by being at the right place at the right time but also due to some questionable practices. Those questionable practices are the one that has lead to what we witness now.

Remember one thing, most of the people on H1B (excluding most masters and all direct hires) would have started their US career with a Body shopper (includes both Desi and other firms like Wipro, TCS, Infy, Satyam etc)

We need to look BOTH at our current situation and the path that we traveled to reach there.

    Hey Brother,

I had a tough situation in my life and i was in this scenario and came out.

I consulted a debt services company and they settled it for me and repared my credit score. but, i had a serious intention to clear the debts.

normally the creditors go to court after 3 years, so talk to them through a company or by urself if you are ready to settle. If you settled like 30-50%, the creditors will send I099C and you have to pay tax for that...

    Cheers,

i believe that whatever the above stories convey it does not apply to skilled workers......life in india/china has got better only in the last 5-7 years....otherwise i have seen above average people in india retire with barely enough to live a good life.

if a skilled worker spends 6-7 years in usa with good financial planning he can easily retire, unless one has really started living the dream(big car....big house...all the latest gadgets....yearly india trip...etc..)

i do agree that this story can be related to a non-skilled worker from any country....(even below average americans have nothing except for social security when they retire....)

techy2468 I hope you are kidding & r not serious :) . If you are then u need to meet someone (ofcourse skilled professional) who came 6 /7 yrs ago & ask his opinion on retirement or check out where he stands.

You did not mention any figures (would love to see them from you as well as others reading this thread ) so not sure what you consider to be good savings/financial planning for retirement ?

According to you all those who came in 1999/2000 have enough savings & can start thinking of retirement now.
Do you all guys agree to this or is it only me who is still poor :D ?

Here are some approximate figures, which i hope go for most of the skilled professionals
Assume billing rate: $90K - $100K per year
    Consulting Company cut $ 30K - 40K per year
Let's say average salary is: $60K ( i know many professionals r working for even less but let's include some little rich guys too :) )
Now 60K means $5K salary per month
After Family Health Insurance (considering married) & taxes salary in hand is $3500 to $4000

    Let's take $4000 in hand
    Now expenses :-
    House rent : $850
    Car Insurance : $150
Car Loan payment : $250 (assuming used Toyota/Honda for 8K - 12K, No big dreams :) or rich lifestyle )
House Utilities bill : $150 (like water, electricity etc)
    Cable/Internet/phone : $75 ( No HBO or special channels - No big dreams :) )
    Grocery : $500
    Eating out once a week : $125
Lunch out : $0 ( ask your wife to give u lunch :D - No big dreams)
    Misc $300
    Total monthly expenses $2400
    (living an average middlecalss lifestyle)

    Savings per month 4000 - 2400 = $1600

Now in 6 - 7 yrs (assuming the person worked like a "Donkey" :D with not a single vacation , no trips to india)
    12months X 6/7yrs X 1600savings = $ 115,200/ $134,400 (Total Savings)

Do you really think this is sufficient to buy a house & lead a retired life either here or in india ???? or maybe i hv started thinking big :D
(By the way even after 6 yrs i don't hv anything close to above figure -maybe because i did't live/work like a donkey)

I'd like to add that I'm very appreciative of all the hardwork and leadership the IV team is showing. We can't really ask for a bunch of better people to lead us.

I know you all have spent tremendous time and resources (multiple trips to DC for people coming as far as Florida) and I would say you should divide up between yourselves whatever monies remain (if any) at the end of the effort. This will atleast go toward covering some of your out of pocket costs.

I know this suggestion is likely to be rejected, but I wanted to convey it, just to express my feelings...
