Thanks for all the responses. My question is: Can one legally be on payroll of two companies and draw salary from them, both on H1? How about both on EAD? And, one on H1, the other on EAD?

Everyone here aspires to be a future citizen of the United States of America. If GC process didn't have problems, we would already have been citizens. Those who haven't learn't to sing it, should do so soon. It can be asked in the naturalization quiz.

Yes, it is all luck with this kind of stupid process they follow.
If some one in India talks about this stupidity before we come here will be nice I guess as once we come here with lot of ambitions and aspirations without knowing internals of stupidy we all get stuck, neither there nor here and keep waiting for GC dream to come true.
There is no logic for this process.

What will be my status after i file my I485?
My current I-94 will expire on 16th Sep 2007 (on the day my current visa stamp in my passport expires and my current H1 B is set to expire Mid April 2008).
I am planning to make a trip to Cannda or someplace to get a new I-94 as soon as i get my new passport (i had sent it for renewal on june 2nd). But i am a little worried about my status if i am unable to make the trip.
So my question is what will be my status after 16th sep 2007 (once i file for I485 (first week of July2007) and my I-94 expires on 16th Sep 2007)?
Appreciate any responses ...

There is good chance that we might loose visas this year too....with USCIS allocating resoucers to citizenship apps given the elections in november.

Can you let us know know why you cudn't get it corrected at the CBP? Its clearly a mistake by the POE officer. Try other CBPs till you succeed. thats the best option you have. I've done it myself. First time, when I called them to get an appointment they said it can't be done. I called them again and got an appointment without any problem (obviously it was somebody else who attended the phone). Went in person and explained it clearly and the officer accepted the mistake and apologized on behalf of the POE Officer. He gave me a new I-94 and struck out the new number and wrote the old I94# on it. He also updated it in the system.
So, please give it a try before trying out other options. HTH!

My DL was renewed for four years, much beyond my I-94 expiry, both the times...so guys, come on to CA...Golden land of jobs, good weather, cosmopolitan and accomdating/tolerant ppl of all races/religions :-). I am still on H1-B though..
Man you have a punchline which you could use to sell CA in Mexico.. send this to Arnold...and you could land up with the PR job for the state..and get your GC under EB-1 ..

Could you please explain this a bit. I am not sure if I am understanding this right.

My attorney prepared the EVL for my employer to sign. I have handed that over to my boss who has sent it to HR for review. This letter has lot of legal lingo and information related to my LCA and I-140 e.g.,
"We acknowledge that, according to the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. �1154 and 8 U.S.C. �1182(a)(5)(A)), ............"
"We acknowledge that <my name>'s immigration petition filed on <I-140 filing date> listed his job title as <my LCA job title> and <my name>'s current position is in same or similar profession...."
So my concern is why would any employer sign this letter without knowing anything about my LCA, I-140 etc (I had changed job about 240 days after 485 filing). So my current employer may have issues signing this letter.
But my attorney insists that this letter (in same format) needs to be signed in order to respond to the RFE. My thinking is that all this lingo and stuff related to LCA can be eliminated from the letter so that my employer is more comfortable signing it.
