I have heard the above from a lawyer. I think there is lot truth in the above statement.
However, in teaching the Univ processes H1B and most faculty pay the USCIS fees. I have written a check to USCIS for my H1B fees. Most faculty also pay their GC dues including lawyer + USCIS fees.
I have also heard that faculty can negotiate for the Deptt to pay the H1B + GC fees.
In my case i paid for the H1B expenses (includig lawyer fees) my self , but my company re-embered the amount once i completed three months. Same with GC, i paid till now, 3500 as lawyer fees. Filling fees extra. But haven't paid any filing fee yet as i am waiting for my PD to be current. And the company is going to give me the money i paid till now back once i complete three years. Some employers won't provide us the receipt notices for our I-485 applications. Yeah, it is supposed to be OUR application but that's how they play this game. Attorney refuses to release the RNs without employer's permission.
If we don't get our receipt notices, can we still change employer in 6 months using AC21. There must be a way out otherwise these suckers have an easy way to bypass AC21 laws...

possible reason for mysterious rejections :
You are a mail room guy, you go home friday (06/29) and comeback on monday (06/02).
You start the monkey business of timestamping incoming mail, but half an hours into the day (around 8 or 9:00 am), you realize "sshhttt: i did not change the date on my stamp, its still read 06-29-2007". In the classical govt. fashion, you do not bother to go back and restamp the applications with the correct datetime. Not because you are evil, but because you simply don't understand the ramifications of early stamping. You think u are doing the guy a favor, putting him/her early in line.. but guess what... the guy's application is gonna get rejected.
Could this be the case with some apps mysteriously being rejected?

I'm afraid of same things too...Hope something will work out.
Based on Assement in this article, it almost seems that the chances of STRIVE are dead even before it goes to House Immigration Commettee. I am not trying to be negative or something but the article has such a tone. I can understand that Pelosi did not schedule any timing but what concerns me most is the fact that
"California Democrat Zoe Lofgren, who chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security and International Law, will hold hearings before marking up any bill"
Now we all know how one sided these hearings are and how long they take. In nutshell these hearings give chance to any tom, dick and harry to express his opinion and create melodrama. We already worry about melodrama of people such as Sen Sessions in the Senate. Add this drama, and it can easily eat the short window we have to get the relief. I got my EAD today...Even i received my Wife EAD also...Mine is sent to NSC on july 2nd...I received EAD's from Texas Center...I think my application was transferred to Texas...I have approved I-140 from Texas...Are receipt numbers for EAD, 485, AP are in serial? I haven't received receipts yet...I filled G-28...my attorney did not receive my receipts...I don't know what is going on...

According to what I have read - porting of PD can be done at 2 stages
1. At the time the second I-140 is applied or,
2. When one applies for the I-485.
So you should be fine going by #2. Not an attorney, just like you all - a GC aspirant commenting on his research.
My question is the same that you raised earlier - the Memo states that the PD has to be current when interfiling. But in the case of pd_recapturing, his PD is May 04 which is not current - EB2 for India is Apr 04 (my assumption being that pd_recapturing is from India.)
My case is exactly as pd_recapturing, waiting for the approval of my second I-140 to see if the date got ported or not (we had requested during filing of second I-140). After the approval, I was thinking of waiting for my PD to be current before filing.

Just got my I-94 updated with the correct dates at the local airport - the CBP officer was very courteous and immediately knew what was to be done.

The report wants all PhDs in science and technology with 1 year job experience to be allowed automatic AOS benefits (and not just for some future F4 graduates). Again, the report in general talks about all the sciences- specifically highlighting benefits of the life sciences in several pages- and not just the physical sciences. It is for this reason, and if we correctly reference our arguments, that their reasonableness will be obvious to any and every US lawmaker and his/her staff. Had we demanded these based just on our requirements or wishes, it would have had virtually zero chance of getting through. For exact references to the National Academies report, look up the attached letter in the thread linked above.

My college got his I140 approved just in 2 months with normal processing. He filed in EB2-I. Mine was also approved last year in 2 months in EB2-I. Does the location from where are you applying affect processing time?

I have EAD for couple of years & when I moved to Ohio, I was issued 4 years DL. They did look at I-94 (I travelled on AP having one year validaty on I-94), also they DID NOT looked at my EAD expiry date..They asked very simple question - Do you have your SSN? Thats it..!

Yesterday, I felt proud to be part of a crowd that is so dedicated, selfless, hardworking, fearless, educated, discplined, understanding!!
