Here's an anecdote -
This was back in the late 80s, when I was growing up - in Bangalore.
India had just lost the Finals of a well fought [field] hockey match to Pakistan. We were all very disappointed by the loss, but it saddened me further to see a victory procession with waving Pakistani flags in the Muslim parts of the City.
Ofcourse, India is a secular country and more so the United States.. and you can cheer whoever you please..
But, If you chose to become a US Citizen, and US were in a battle with your country of Origin (let's narrow it down to Sports, to keep it less complicated), which country would you side? If I chose to side with my country of origin, it would make me a hypocrite, wouldn't it ?

As your lawyer used the words "change of employer petition", it seems that one can use AP to travel and still after coming back he/she can file for either extension, amendment or transfer. This answers the main concern that I started this thread for.
Also, on other threads I read that its possible to file H1 amendement even if your H1 is still valid. This is one way to come back to H1 status and get a New I-94 card.
Some one also mentioned that if you have a valid I-797 extenstion approval notice and if you show that at POE to IO, he/she may issue an I-94 till expiry of I-797 (3 years) instead of AP (1 year).
I would appreciate input from others who have some knowledge or experience of above situations.

First of all, my action just represents myself, not IV. Secondly, I don't really care whether EB-3 ROW would quit or join IV. To be frank with you, my PD is just 3 month away from the current date (EB2 China). From what I know now, immigration reform won't reduce my waiting time significantly. I have contributed to this organization, but now I decide to take some action of my own instead of contribute to this organization. It's quite funny that you threaten to quit this organization. This organization would benefit you much more than people like me since you are in EB3 ROW. But it is totally your call. I don't care whether you quit or not.

You can go online and schedule an appointment.. You would need select service on a pending case.. There is no option for pending name check, you have to go the window and explain.. Depending upon service rep, you may or may not get any info... I am trying to figure out if something can be done in situations like ours... FBI name check was a major problem for may people and it took years in some cases.. But, there was law suite and judge ruled that a case must be adjudicated if name check has been pending over 180 days. This helped in clearing large no of pending cases.. A new memo was issued which stated that IO has to get an approval from head office if name check has been pending for more than 180 days...

While I was waiting for GC, I finished MBA last year. I have a Masters degree in Comp. Sc. also. It has been 4 1/2 years with no clear indication regarding the LC alone. Hats off to the screwed up concept of BEC. If my LC is not processed in time, I might leave next year.
I am thinking of doing a part time job on H-1B also. If that pans out well, atleast I will forget the pain of GC for a while.

My mistake.. I was under the impression that my contact info is visible. I have already met with my local congressman and submitted a memo. I have got a reply saying they would address this issue as part of impending CIR bill. I was not sure what to make of it, whether he is pro and anti retrogression..
Thanks for updating the profile. pls set up a conf call in your chapter. Announce it on the forum and get people to PM you their email and phone number and then invite them for the call. This will ensure you have commited people who genuinely want to work in the local chapter with you. send an email to IV if you have any question and we will help you. Get in touch with other state chapter leaders that are active (paskal, janilsal, varshadas..etc) for inputs since they are also meeting lawmakers. It is a community effort and everyone needs to make some efforts in order for us to succeed.

My personal opinion is that other than few algorithm, electrical design, compiler design kind of jobs, most jobs in Computer applications can be done by an EB3/EB2 person. It's only how your company treats a particular job opening that you get designated as EB2/EB3. I could file in EB2 and lots of top-rankers from my class could only file in EB3. Does that make them any less capable than me?? Nope!

I have read many papers published by these phd students during my MS coursework. Many of them are an absolute trash!
They propose something which has bunch of shortcomings and then list them down as future work.
Others come along, look at the future work section and propose something else with one less shortcoming
and so on...
Every researcher says his/her proposal is better and runs biased set of tests to support the claims.
99% of such research papers would be used as toilet papers in India by the homeless!
Industry doesn't even look at most of this academic trash.
Most of these phds (not all) end up as lecturers making people yawn in the class.
The real productive ones that graduate from top notch universities, the cream of the crop that achieve breakthroughs don't come to this public forum and trash people around.

ICICI can not predict rather no one can predict what will be the exchange rate tomorrow. The minimum forex transaction at dealer level is for $1 mil. So, they can't promise you some rate the moment you hit the submit button. They will pool all the transactions like yours and then do a big contract together. ICICI provides lot of other services which SBI will not in terms of convenience. And ICICI deals big time in forex transactions. Did it occur to anyone that we are only talking about compensating Aman the $64k he spent already. Imagine if he had made use of that $64k as an investment(let us say a safe investment with minimum returns) of that amount it should have exceeded that $64k value by now.
The least we can do at this moment is to immediately refund Aman and other core team members the amount they have spent towards the administrative costs of IV. Pappu / Logic Life / Other core team members, please let us know what kind of legal/administrative action is required to get this done.
We will immediately start a funding drive towards filling in this shortage from the total IV funds. IMHO on the longer run the smaller funds ($10, $20 etc) should not be neglected.
Let us figure out the required amount and have a new thread started about this. This settlement should be treated with high priority before any other funding drive. Pledging my $200 towards this.
